Mr. David Kirkland

Greetings Asheboro High School Students, Staff and Community:

I am excited to join the administrative team here at Asheboro High School this school year. My duties will have me covering those students with last name initials G-M along with other tasks like buses, parking, and Crisis and Safety management to name a few. I will begin my 21st year in education this school year. I have functioned in different roles along the way with the majority being a 4th and 5th grade teacher. In between teaching and becoming an administrator, I was an Instructional Coach for five Title I elementary schools. Amid these various roles, I have been afforded the opportunity to serve hundreds of students, teachers and parents, which has been great.

Another passion of mine for 25 years was coaching basketball. I coached high school basketball at South Stokes HS and TW Andrews HS  as well as an AAU travel team, Titans Elite. Between these 3 teams, I was blessed to be a part of over 60 championships, including two State Championships and one National Championship.  Of course, I am an avid Carolina basketball fan, which lends to the winning tradition. A footnote would be that I also was chosen to coach a select National Team that participated in the World Games in 2006 held in Amsterdam-Holland within the Netherlands. There, my team finished 4th out of 29 countries and missed medaling by 2 points.

One goal I have is to visit all 50 states and continents before I turn 50. Although an achievable goal, it gets tougher as time passes so quickly. I currently stand at having explored 43 states and 4 continents. We’ll see what the future holds. What most do not know about me is that I am a professional artist. I worked in graphic art and advertising as an art director before moving into education. I still do free-lance art upon request.

Moving forward, I am eager to share my talents and experiences with AHS, ACS and its communities. Please feel free to drop by my office or contact me via email or phone at or 336-625-6185.

Go Blue Comets!
