What we're learning in our Foods I classes:
- Identifying food customs, trends, and the factors that affect our food choices
- Interpreting the relationship between nutrition and health
- Describing safety and sanitation procedures in the kitchen
- Explaining the organization and management of kitchens and resources
- Using recipes, including measurements, conversions, cooking terminology, and following recipe directions
- Demonstrating basic mixing procedures, like the ones used to make cakes, muffins, and breads
- Selecting and preparing Pyramid foods, like grains, fruits, vegetables, eggs, dairy, and meats
- Understanding meal management- stretching the food dollar and work simplification
- Planning menus to incorpororate elements of nutrition, flavor, and visual appeal
- Establishing a dining atmosphere- table setting, meal service, table etiquette
