Allied Health Science 1 is a fast paced course studying the anatomy, physiology and pathology of each body system. This course is the prerequisite for the 2 completer courses Medical Science 2 and Allied Health Science 2.
Allied Health Science 2 is a 2 credit completer course that requires successful completion of Allied Health Science 1. This course is a 2 semester course for seniors desiring to pursue a health related career. Students will learn CPR, First Aid, diagnostic skills, nursing skills, infection control principles, safety and much more. Students will actively care for residents in an approved long term care facility with instructor supervision. Forty hours must be completed in long term care in order for a student to apply for their nurse aide certification.
Biomedical Technology
This course challenges students to investigate current and 21st century medical and health care practices using computerized databases, the Internet, media, and visiting health team professionals. Topics include the world of biomedical technology, the language of medicine, present and evolving biomedical specialties, biomedical ethics: crises and alternatives, and health career development. Skills in science, health,communications, mathematics and social studies are reinforced in this course. Health Occupations club membership provides opportunities for personal and experiential growth.
