Care Tips for Laptop Screens

The laptop screen is the single most expensive part of your laptop. Most damage to it is non-repairable. To keep your screen in good shape:

• Stay away from it - i.e. do NOT poke it with your finger - or even worse- with a pen or pencil.• If you do get fingerprints or dirt on your screen, you can clean it - with care and the proper cleaning solution.  Use a damp cloth... Do NOT (repeat, do NOT) use glass cleaner.
• Protect the LCD display monitor. When you shut your laptop, make sure there are no small items, such as a pencil or small ear-phones, on the keyboard. These can damage the display screen when shut; the screen will scratch if the item is rough.
• Avoid scratching and putting pressure on the LCD screen.
• Close the lid gently holding two sides. Closing the lid using only one side causes pressure on that hinge and over time can cause it to bend and snap.
• Hold and lift the computer by its base, not by its LCD display (the screen). If you lift it by the screen part alone, you could damage the display or the hinges attaching it to the base.
• When you carry your laptop, never hold it by the front right/left corner. This can cause the entire laptop to flex in the middle which could eventually cause damage to the system board.
• The best way to carry your laptop is to close the screen and put it in your laptop bag.
• Never carry your laptop by holding onto the top of the screen. This can cause the screen to crack or the screen's hinges to break.
• If you need to carry your laptop while it’s running, with the screen open, put one hand on the back of the screen and the other hand flat on the bottom middle (think of carrying a pizza.). This keeps stress to a minimum and secures your laptop in case someone bumps into you in the hall.
